British Values

At Knights Primary, we value the diversity and backgrounds of all our pupils, families and the wider community. We strongly believe in upholding British values through all aspects of out inclusive school provision.

Our school reflects these values in all we do. We aim to nurture our pupils so they can make a positive contribution to the community and wider world.

What are British Values?

The five fundamental British values identified by the government which schools must focus on are:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect
  • Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs

How we help our children prepare for adult life as citizens in modern Britain

  • Through our school values, we teach them the importance of following British values in order to make a positive contribution to society.
  • We deliver weekly PSHE lessons that incorporate the British values in the topics taught.
  • Our school council gives pupils first-hand experiences of democracy in action.
  • We teach pupils about right and wrong and their own rights and responsibilities.
  • We encourage pupils to take an active life in their school community.
  • Participation in sporting fixtures and other competitions, helps pupils understand the importance of mutual respect.
  • We teach about different faiths and beliefs and take part in assemblies and visits.
