Haberdashers' Advantage at Knights Primary
Our pupils have a world of opportunities at their fingertips through our unique character curriculum: The Haberdashers' Advantage.
Thanks to our staff, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, our community, and our many partners, the Haberdashers experience for every pupil is like no other. By giving them this advantage, we support our pupils to be happy, confident and successful individuals who will contribute to making their communities – and the world – a better place.
The Knights Primary Haberdashers’ Advantage develops the individual character of our students through our school values, which fall under four pillars: moral, civic, performance and intellectual. To ensure equitable opportunities for our students the curriculum is focussed on three key areas:
- Taught – opportunities to teach our Trust values and character pillars
- Caught - policies and procedures that embody our Trust values and character pillars
- Sought – opportunities to get involved in experiences and opportunities that differentiate students

Haberdashers’ Advantage Curriculum at Knights Primary
At Haberdashers’ Knights Primary, character education is integral to our work in ensuring pupils develop into well-educated and well-rounded citizens who can confidently take their place in the world.
Haberdashers’ Knights Primary provides an education that inspires pupils to be proud of themselves and celebrates the diversity of their school and wider community. Our broad, balanced curriculum provides pupils with the cultural capital and powerful knowledge that will ensure progress, open doors and give them confidence, thus driving equity and social mobility.
All pupils have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of artistic, creative and sporting challenges as part of our taught curriculum and co-curriculum offer. This enables pupils to discover new interests and develop existing ones, while instilling the values of resilience, aspiration and self-discipline. Specialist teachers deliver high-quality art, PE and music lessons to every class so pupils develop their skills and learning progressively and over time. The school has dedicated art, music and food technology rooms that enhance this offer.
Aspiration through enrichment
There are plentiful opportunities for pupils to compete in competitions and participate in events for a range of audiences. All classes also access regular Forest School sessions and participate in educational visits that take advantage of our close proximity to places of interest in London and beyond. Pupils also experience university visits and links with the University of Greenwich to motivate them to aspire to long-term goals.
Our enrichment clubs offer is varied and inspiring. All pupils have access to a range of sports and Arts provision. Through the co-curriculum, pupils further develop their social skills and confidence. Engagement in extra-curricular activities outside of the school day over time helps develop our pupils’ ability to demonstrate commitment.
Magical Moments
Our Magical Moments is made up of a tapestry of experiences we pledge all children will have the opportunity to enjoy during their time at the school There are five experiences in each academic year. These are closely linked to the taught curriculum and cover all subjects. Magical moments are life-enriching experiences that bring learning to life, connect pupils with the past, broaden their horizons or develop skills which may inspire their future pursuits.

Junior Leadership
At Knights Primary, we place strong emphasis on the importance of Junior Leadership. We encourage volunteering as a way of breaking down social barriers and promoting pupil voice. Our Junior Leadership roles include; Head Boy and Girl, school council, digital leaders and House, Maths and Sports Captains. Through taking roles of responsibility, pupils develop secure understanding of the importance of democracy and the strength of individual and group responsibility.
Reading strategy
At Knights Primary, we believe that teaching children to read is our core priority. The ability to read fluently is fundamental to children’s development as independent, lifelong learners. Reading is central to our ability to understand, interpret and communicate with the world around us. At Knights Primary, students learn to read and read to learn. Our aim is to encourage and support all of our students to become enthusiastic and reflective readers across a wide range of genres and literature. Our chosen texts are written by a wide range of authors who represent the diversity of our community and under-represented groups. Our learning environment, educational visits, parental partnerships all create culture of reading within our school.
We passionately believe that education for character through the Haberdashers’ Advantage develops resilient, engaged and ambitious young people who have the skills to enable them to excel throughout their time at Haberdashers’ and beyond. Our pupils are proud of themselves and proud to be Haberdashers.
